Fifteen PDHS members worked 250 hours in the four gardens (Museum Gardens, Flag Garden, Cenotaph and Tay Basin side of the Crystal Palace) plus one additional student volunteer supplied by the Museum. We began working April 20 and the last gardening date was November 2.

The gardeners who helped out this year were: Marie Amyot, David Archer, Judy Buehler, Sherry Burke, Richard Catchpaw, Brenda Day, Paul Day, Susan Green, Lynda Haddon (Co-Ordinator), Jeela Jones, Robin McIntosh, Ed Roberts, Elaine Scott, Sue Upham, Janette Wood and a young student, Angus.

Our caring and committed volunteers are an integral part of our ongoing success and positive regard in the Town of Perth. As Mayor Fenik indicated a couple of years ago at the installation of the plaque at the Flag Garden, “PDHS is the greatest organization in the world!” Nailed it again this year! A big thank you to Lynda Haddon who is our Community Gardens Coordinator and who provided this information.

PLANT SALE - MAY 20, 2017

The PDHS plant sale is a long running event held on the Saturday morning of the May holiday weekend (May 20, 2017 - 8:30 am to 10:00 am). Over the years it has moved from being a table in the parking lot beside the town library to its present location in the double gymnasium at Stewart School on Sunset Blvd.

The primary purpose of the sale is to raise funds for the running of the Society. As an added bonus, it also provides members with a chance to share their excess of plants as well as giving people the opportunity to endlessly renovate their gardens at bargain prices.

The majority of the plants are donated by members. The sale is staffed by volunteers from the Society. Judging from the line ups and the enthusiasm of the buyers, the sale is highly anticipated and a regular success!

PDHS participates in the annual Seedy Sunday event in March put on by the Perth Farmer’s Market. This year's Seedy Sunday will be on March 5th at the Perth Legion, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.

For well over a decade, the PDHS has participated, along with many other local Perth businesses and stores, in decorating a Christmas tree at the Crystal Palace for the "Festival of Lights".
