Fifteen exuberant and enthusiastic PDHS garden volunteers led the charge in taking care of the Town of Perth’s four central gardens again this year: Matheson House Museum Gardens, Flag Garden, Inge Va and Cenotaph. Each garden is special in its own way and uniquely honours our forefathers—those who fought and died, those who served for us to live free and those who helped create and build the foundations of our amazing heritage town..
Building on our ancestors’ foundations is both an honour and a privilege. I also believe that after eight years involved with these gardens, we can honestly say this gardening journey has become a proud and meaningful PDHS tradition borne out by the number of people visiting the gardens through the season and the increase in birds, bees, butterflies and this year, a rabbit.
We cannot do this without our many PDHS gardening volunteers each year. We have come to depend upon your continuing commitment, the smiles and camaraderie each Summer.
You are most welcome to join us twice a month (from early May to approximately the first week of October) when we work together, share our collective knowledge while continuing the tradition and contributing to the legacy.
If you are interested in joining us, you can make a note on your membership application form, or speak to any of the PDHS Board members. Hope to see you in 2024.
The PDHS plant sale is a long running event held on the Saturday morning of the May holiday weekend. This year the plant sale will be held on Saturday, May 18th at Crystal Palace in conjunction with the Perth Farmer's Market. We will be there from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The primary purpose of the sale is to raise funds for the running of the Society. As an added bonus, it also provides members with a chance to share their excess plants as well as giving people the opportunity to endlessly renovate their gardens at bargain prices.
The majority of the plants are donated by members. The sale is staffed by volunteers from the Society. Judging from the line-ups and the enthusiasm of the buyers, the sale is highly anticipated and a regular success!
For well over a decade, the PDHS has participated, along with many other local Perth businesses and stores, in decorating a Christmas tree at the Crystal Palace for the "Festival of Lights".
